Buenos dias chic@s, there is a good chance I'll be coming to CDMX very soon. I've never been there and I've heard conflicting things on what the prices are like there, and I'm trying to budget (obv I can find what the prices of AirBnBs and hotels are, but I don't know about the rest of my living expenses). For those of you with recent experience in CDMX and also in South America, how would you say the prices compare to Buenos Aires or São Paulo? Or for a comparison with somewhere nearer, San José, Costa Rica?

I am currently in Buenos Aires and was in CDMX for over a month last month. Prices are comparatively same, with CDMX being expensive of the two. Buenos Aires should not be expensive but it is for the quality of the apartments. I am going to Rio next in a month so would start looking at AirBnBs in a few weeks. Buenos Aires has gone very expensive for other things like cafes, eating outside, buying imported things that you might accidentally need during your stay here. But, any day I will prefer Buenos Aires over CDMX over life in general.

Interestingly I think that the popularity of nomading make some challenges for a community setup like this.

When I was a baby nomad, a meetup through nomadlist was the best way to find the weird group of like minded remote working people visiting the same place to have a dinner and a drink. All the digital nomads could just go to one event on a Thursday night.

Now, individual cities have groups and sub groups by topic, by interest, by gender, by language, and just being a meetup for nomads isn't specific enough.

I'm planning to spend about six months in Argentina starting in November, but I'm still quite undecided about where to stay.

My priorities are beautiful nature, water (ideally lakes for swimming), good training facilities (martial arts, gym), and a relatively affordable cost of living.

From what I've researched so far, the Córdoba region, perhaps Villa Carlos Paz, seems like a good fit.

Or is Mendoza more scenic? Are there any beautiful lakes around Mendoza where you can actually swim?

In my personal expirience, mendoza was one of the best places I’ve stayed at. Scenic, nature, welcoming people, ability to move by bicycle (old railway converted into the bike line even going up into the mountains). that was in 2020

My favorite area was around Bariloche and San Martin de los Andes. Biked all around the lake at Bariloche and great hiking around San Martin. Mendoza area was fun with all the wine and olive oil, if you are into wine which I am. Not sure about which lakes you can actually swim in, it would depend a lot on the season.

I love Mendoza a lot more than Cordoba. It has more small town vibes, and personally I prefer the Andes mountains than the hills in Cordoba. There’s a nice reservoir near Mendoza where you can swim, do SUP, there are cool rivers and streams, and there are several nice hiking trails in the area. Plus you can cross over to Chile, Valparaiso is worth a visit.

i just went online to apply for my DTV , after a long family holiday and see that all the rules have changed since august 31st and now you have to apply from your country of residence - but I am currently in Bali and headed to Cambodia and then Thailand - at the time, when i did my research you could do it from any country. Has anyone found a solution to this or how are people staying longer than the allowed 60+30 =90 days via the tourist visa. I booked accommodation for 6 months already😂

Because the DTV was an easy application at the time and I didn’t think there was any problem

Did it again in Buenos Aires, never been to Argentina before, it was 11:30pm and the host was not there, nor left keys with the security guard. Talking with AirBnB support time passed to 1am. Hotels nearby had remote receptionist on a big screen and spoke Spanish only. Luckily found one 4-star with real reception and AirBnB covered the cost. Now I'm never doing it again.
