Hi guys! ๐Ÿ˜Š Iโ€™m Mirjana, 36, from Munich, Germany. Iโ€™m a digital nomad and Iโ€™ll start my journey at the end of October in Brazil. From there, Iโ€™ll continue to Argentina, Colombia and Mexico.

Is anyone else planning something similar and looking to travel and work around South America for a couple of months? Would be great to connect! ๐Ÿ˜Š
Hi Mirjana! Nice to meet you! Lets connect!
If you were going to take a sabbatical for a year, how would you design it?

I'm looking to give my 2 week notice late October but, if LLMs are not hallucinating, if I go to SE Asia, I'd need to do some hopping around every couple months.

Chatgpt still seems convinced that Thailand is my best bet but it did warn me that the air quality in the early months of the year can be quite bad.

My goals are simple: workout a lot, get back into road cycling, fall back in love with building software for me and not for someone else.

What's everyone else's take?
It does seem like the DTV is a great fit for me so that I can stay put in one place for an extended period.
This year in Thailand air quality was fine in Chiang Mai well into mid-February; probably due to government measures in the region. However, itโ€™s still affected by neighboring countries and friends told me it got bad soon after. Southern regions didnโ€™t seem to have the same issues, I spent a month chilling in a navy town named Sattahip in March. What Iโ€™d recommend is:
- Thailand December to end of February or mid March
- Then Vietnam, I started it off in Da Nang. I went up north to Sa Pa but air quality was pretty bad mid April tbh. If I did it again Iโ€™d probably head south and go to Vietnam before it gets too hot.
- Then Iโ€™d recommend Indonesian islands like Bali in April. I didnโ€™t personally go but thatโ€™s when the season starts apparently; and I did a lot of research while I waited for 3 years for someone to go on the trip with me. My advice is; donโ€™t wait, just go. Youโ€™ll figure it out. My plan was to swing by to Bali, but I got tired of missing friends and family around month 3 mark; so I decided to make my way back home to Turkey. But Dubai was risky due to the war, so I made another trip out of it and spent a month in Uzbekistan on my way back home. It ended up being great and Iโ€™ll likely visit again.
Hey! Going to Morocco for the 1st time. Whatโ€™s the best spot to live by the beach?
This is great. Thank you so much.

I wish I could take off tomorrow but I tore my ACL in February so I'm waiting for my surgeon to clear me for a return to sports ๐Ÿ˜…
Oof, best of luck with that! I also hit a wall with an MS diagnosis this June so Iโ€™m stuck home until my treatment starts, too, lol.
Hey Alya, thanks for your message. Unfortunately Iโ€™m not going to Mexico City. I will be in Tulum and Playa del Carmen โ˜บ๏ธ
hey Alya! im doing a nomads meetup this thursday!
servus Max! many countries in latam and europe where you could do that tax free :)
local ties and time. Test too though, i have a friend who actually failed it
yes i have one and we've had dozens of clients approved. Glad to help as well
Hi, everyone! I'm Ce'Lene, 38, from Hawai'i/Seattle. I've been an entrepreneur for 2 years and I've already been to about 20 countries; however, I'm officially a digital nomad as of this month. I'm starting my journey off in CDMX and I'm excited to explore some new places! I'll mostly be traveling to Latin American countries to go out latin dancing and take dance classes! Looking forward to connecting with you all!
Hi, Mirjana! I'd love to connect! I have a few of those places on my list for this year!
I have a recommendation for a great tutor/teacher for 1:1 lessons!
Taghazout, Tamraght and Imsouane

Imsouane especially is a beautiful quiet spot with lots of surfing
Essaouira has it all imo. I'm also into kitesurfing so perfect for me. the old medina part of town is really nice and filled with good restaurants and cafes. On top of that it's super chill. highly recommend it.
Hey anybody use stable coin for payments in vietnam, if so which app do you use?
localpay.asia is good
hey friends i have a question. iโ€™ve got the digital nomad visa in spain and am applying for the 5 year DTV for thailand end of the year. has anyone else done the same ? any blockers you experienced from the spanish side ?
holiii i asked in the thailand channel but asking here too - anyone here have both the spanish digital nomad visa and the thai DTV ? i have the spanish and am applying for the DTV. want to hear if anyone had any blockers while applying ? most concerned about spanish side more than thai side. gracias
Hey! Any digital nomads in Nha Trang these days? Are they any English tech gatherings?
I donโ€™t have the Thai DTV but do have the Spanish nomad visa.

You will likely need to pay Spanish taxes if youโ€™re living in Spain for at least 183 days in a calendar year.

Thatโ€™s as much as I know
Hey all, are there any hyperlocal social apps that people actually use? Iโ€™m trying to understand what makes them tick
hey dustin, yeh i am already fully registered and paid to date etc iโ€™ve been here for 4 years, its more whether spain will find concept of me potentially being in thailand for an extended period (but still less than 183 days) as a red flag.
forgot to tag you ^
Anyone here who doesn't speak Portuguese and from North America, driven a car in Floripa and mainland? Are the road signs and rules similar?
Ooo! Is there a link or smth to learn more?
Let's grab a coffee!!
Ooo!!! Yes pls!
I'm in cdmx, they have regular language meetups almost every day of the week. There is one tonight in condensa
Hyperlocal? Like WhatsApp?
Ah can you share more info (site/group)? I'd love to join!
My favourite areas are Campeche and Lagoa.

Floripa is pretty safe, I wouldnโ€™t worry a lot about it. Focus on what are your priorities like: cafes, close to the beach, good modern gym, close to a mallโ€ฆ and go for it.
The island is considerably small, so you can always take an uber to wherever you want
Visit Huerto Roma Verde on a Saturday or Sunday between 11am and 5pm. Usually a lot of very fun things there.
The one tonight is called flow, at wallace whiskey bar. You can find it on meetup.com. Entry fee is 100 pesos if you buy it online
There's a really big one every Saturday at falling piano brewery. Usually has about 50 people show up, also on meetup.com
anyone in CDMX does bjj and want to roll?
im training at henkan weekdays 8pm
does anyone have experience living in a coliving space in chiang mai?
Hello everyone, anyone renting in Japan for October-November-December? Can be Tokyo or more north, plan to go to Aomori

Thanks! Regarding the WiFiโ€ฆ is it good? I was reading bad stuff about it ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ˜…
Anyone looking for a room in Vancouver? ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ
I use Yodl
going to be in guatemala on thursday! anyone interested in linking? will be there for 3 weeks
I've driven all over Brazil in a rented car. Only thing I'd advise is watch out for random speedbumps on the highway ๐Ÿ˜‚ otherwise it's pretty safe. Floripa is the safest, but I've also driven all over Minas, the Coconut coast, all the SP coastline, and to the Ilhas without issue. Cars are fairly priced at the airport and easy to book and return.
This is the answer
Agreed, Essaouira is also pretty good, there is a coworking there with stable wifi.

I found the wifi in all these places fine
Get a Sim or 2 (from different providers) if you really need stability
Often the mobile network is more stable in Morocco than WiFi

Most coworkings have stable wifi
Hey Markus, interesting
8 year nomad, mostly of Bali, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, Mexico City. Just got the Greek Digital Nomad Visa and planning to base out of Athens for fall, hit some islands when tourists begin to clear next month. Whoโ€™s around?! Thinking of doing a Nomads.com meetup event. (Would also appreciate any links to the local groups.)
Just checked out Lake Vouliagmeni last week. Damn, that is not overrated!
Everyone here mostly in Mykonos or Crete?
200 usd night? are you joking me? for founders?
A normal hotel in europe costs easily 80-150$ I read what all is included to me it seems pretty reasonable given that you can attend events and get access to the community I didnt compare local prices for hotels in general though

Welcome!
I prefer Centro as it's close to everything and well-connected, it's also slightly cheaper than Campeche and Lagoa too for rentals. Floripa is generally very safe all over but the safest neighborhood is likely Jurere Int'l (It's fancy, and FULL of babies/new parents ๐Ÿ˜…)
Can anyone recommend a good stablecoin payment solution to pay in Thailand with QR codes? Thanks!
Hello! I'll be in Sofia 14-15th and 18th of September and some days also in Burgas, if someone wants to hang out with a non-stop talking Spaniard ๐Ÿ˜œ
Hey everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹ Iโ€™m Boyke, 28.

Iโ€™m a Senior Software Engineer and AI Automation Developer, working mainly with Next.js, TypeScript, and AI-powered business systems.

Lately, Iโ€™ve been focused on building tools that connect business data, automate workflows, and help business owners make better decisions.

Iโ€™m here to meet founders, developers, entrepreneurs, and remote workers from around the world, exchange ideas, and hopefully find some interesting collaborations along the way.

dont think there is. regulatory doesnt allow it
I'm surprised because there is an option in almost all countries I know so far. Even neighboring countries to Thailand

the local exchanges are working on a product called tourist digipay (you can google it) with the local authorities but it has been a work in progress for the last 1 year plus
Incredible that most other countries have found many solutions long ago. Even Bangladesh, Pakistan, etc.

Like Happn but if it was for meet-ups (pub crawls, cowork etc). Meetup.com, for example, is very organisation-driven - Iโ€™m looking for something person-driven
Hey all, somebody in Madagscar? ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฌ
Hey fam ๐Ÿค

Iโ€™m currently building goldenweeks Retreats in Zanzibar.

Itโ€™s an accountability retreat for entrepreneurs, freelancers and remote workers who want to make real progress on a project in a beautiful environment.

The retreat takes place in November 2026 and lasts 2 weeks. Weโ€™ll stay together in a beach villa with pool in Zanzibar with a maximum of 8 people.

The idea is simple:
focused work sessions during the day, mastermind sessions in the evening, less distraction, more momentum and being surrounded by people who are also building something meaningful.

Hereโ€™s the retreat:

Any china bank that can be opened outside of china for alipay?
I don't think the paper work is really the problem. It's a lot of paper work, but if you work with someone competent it's not exactly difficult to get the paper work together.
The hard part (for me) is are mainly the following points:
I cannot leave Paraguay for more than 90d per year during the 3 years prior to the application date
To qualify for citizenship, you need to have local economic activity and pay local taxes. In my case this was complicated because all my income is abroad. I figured out how to funnel a part of my income into the country and pay taxes on that part, which allows me to qualify for citizenship.
There is a requirement that you need to have "local ties" as well. To me that's not an issue because my wife is Paraguayan and I own a car and two motorcycles here, so proofing local ties is not a problem, but if you don't really live here then I think this could be difficult too.
I'd like to be. In Ethiopia now. Are you in Madagascar?
Searching for other nomads thatโ€™s why ๐Ÿ˜… but itโ€™s not really popular I guess
Ethiopia is also on my list ๐Ÿฅน
This is very useful. Thank you.

Do you know more about the general criteria for what defined local ties?
Hi everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Iโ€™m looking to connect with headshot and personal branding photographers.

Hello everyone ! My names Sami - planning on moving to Bangkok to work remotely.
Looking at living in Thong Lor region.
Hi all! Moving to Bangkok in the new years, what's ppl opinions on Thong Lor region?

Hello! Anyone in Tirana next week? ๐Ÿ™‚
Hello ๐Ÿ‘‹
Would anyone here be in Sarajevo next month?
Idealista? it helped me out before
Anyone been to itacoatiara beach in niteroi?
I'm not a lawyer. From what I've heard, the easiest way to satisfy the "local ties" requirement is to buy some property, even if it's just an investment and not to live there
elin in #paraguay 2h
local ties could also be getting a โ€˜Paraguay EASโ€™ and bring a part of your foreign income in that way. Maybe get some Paraguayan stocks/bonds/cd held in there too.
Any nightlife places in Tbilisi that get lively early?
The clubs don't even seem to open before midnight..
jmibl in #georgia 46min
Not my speciality, but maybe things like Mutant Radio or Left Bank (not sure when starts). Maybe Lado. Otherwise more like bars (Old Town in particular). There's a complex around Zeche that can get quite lively (entrance is a little unobvious). Maybe Pluto's Records.
